This is the first movie adaptation of the work of the Ukrainian writer Mike Johansen (1895-1937).
The story “Journey of the Scientist Doctor Leonardo and his Future Mistress the Beautiful Alceste to Switzerland of Slobozhanshchyna”, on which the project is based, was created in 1928. Despite that it is a story with a very modern scenic route and interesting unusual characters.
The main geographical place of action is the picturesque area of Sloboda Ukraine, so-called “Switzerland of Slobozhanshchyna”.

An emotional Italian venereologist goes to picturesque Ukrainian Slobozhanshchyna to finally make his beautiful companion his mistress, despite natural obstacles and the appearance of rivals.
SYNOPSIS
In other times, the Spaniard Don Jose Pereira buys a gun and goes on a hunt in the Ukrainian steppes with his dog. There, Don Jose accidentally kills a hare, which is banned in August. His crime is exposed by the Good Tree Planter who kills Don Jose with an ax.
In present times, the Woman and the Man are awaiting their delayed flights.
She is a Ukrainian designer and he is an Italian doctor.
They have different worldviews – the Man believes that “a person looks for the best place”, and the Woman – that “the grass is always greener on the other side”. The confrontation of views would have had no chance of a solution if it were not for the story of the journey of the venereologist Doctor Leonardo Pazzi and the beautiful Alceste to Switzerland of Slobozhanshchyna.
They travel through the picturesque Slobozhanshchyna along the Siverskyi Donets River.
The wooden boat sails across fascinating landscapes – forests, meadows, hills, floats past the reeds and carries the protagonists until the moment when Doctor Leonardo’s dream comes true – to make his beautiful companion Alceste his mistress.
But someone – either a person or an element of nature – is always interfering with the love of the Italians.
In addition, it becomes known that Doctor Leonardo is not Doctor Leonardo at all, but Don Jose Pereira. In the future, this information will be refuted, but now the question arises: whose mistress will the beautiful Alceste finally become in the chalet of the Good Tree Planter – Doctor Leonardo, Don Jose or student Perebiynis?
All of the characters seem to be fantasies existing in the microcosm of the movie only to show the beauty of Slobozhanshchyna.
However, this phantasmagoric story makes the Woman and the Man see the nature of their prejudices and stereotypical thinking, abandon the idea of seeking happiness outside themselves and understand that “change their sky, not their soul, who rush across the sea”.
